Recalling The Past

Recalling The Past

“Remember everyone, your homework is to write a story about a memory you will never forget and why you will never forget it,” Mrs Thompson said as the children rushed out the door. “The one with the best story will win a prize!”

“Oh no, how can I think of a story about a memory I will never forget, why I will never forget it and win the prize in only two days!” Rebecca said out loud almost breathlessly.

As she waited for the bus to take her home, she came across her best friend, Katrina. “Hi Rebecca, you look worried. Are you okay?” Katrina asked siting down next to her. “Katrina, I can’t remember a memory I can never forget.” Rebecca sighed. “Don’t be ridiculous, you have lots of memories you can remember. Just think.” Katrina replied smiling and giggling.

The bus soon came and it was time for them to go on.

When Rebecca got home she quickly went to her room, took out her notebook and started to think. At one point she lay in her bed worried. “What am I going to do?” She said and soon fell asleep.

As Rebecca slept she had a dream. This is what she dreamt herself saying.

How it all started

“Mommy, why is your tummy so enormous?” I asked with a perplexed look. “I’m going to have a baby, Rebecca.” My mom said smiling. “Is it a boy or girl?” My brother asked with enthusiasm in his voice. My mom just smiled.

My brother had always desired to be a big brother and now he was! I couldn’t wait to see if the baby was a girl or boy!

It’s Time!

One night, my dad woke us up earlier than normal. “Rebecca! Reuben! Wake up!” My dad said taking out some clothes for us to wear. “What’s going on dad?” My brother asked putting on his shirt. “Your mom is having the baby!” He replied. We all got our coats and got into the car. The hospital wasn’t far so we got there quite quickly. My dad helped my mom into the hospital and took us to our Aunty Leah then he quickly drove off back to the hospital. “Will mommy be okay?” I asked worriedly. “Of course she will.” Aunty Leah replied. “Your mom’s had two babies before you know.” She gave us some hot chocolate and toast with jam as we waited for dad to come pick us up.

Roseanna’s birth announced

Night turned into morning and still nothing came from mom and dad about the baby. Then aunty stepped in the room. “Guess what?” She said bending down. “The baby was born!” “Reuben you’re a big brother now!” I said shaking his hand as to congratulate him. “I’m a big brother!” My brother said over and over jumping and dancing around.

When dad finally came to pick us up, we couldn’t stop asking about the baby. We went inside the hospital, went into a room and saw mom lying on a bed.

“Mommy!” Reuben shouted as he ran to mom. “Shhhh!” Mom said pointing to the crib. We looked inside and saw a small, cute baby curled up and sleeping. “Rebecca, Reuben this is your new baby sister, Roseanna.  “Wow she’s so cute!” I said like I was about to scream.

Dad took out his camera, gave it to mom and picked up our newly born sister. Then mom snapped a picture of dad and the baby. Dad put her back in her crib. Then she opened her eyes. “She’s smiling at me!” My brother exclaimed.

The next day we took our new baby sister home. “Welcome to your home Rosy!” I said smiling at her. She smiled and made a sound as if trying to say, “Thank you!”

The reason I will never forget this memory is because it was the day my brother became a big brother and our family got bigger all because of one new born baby.”

“Rebecca, Rebecca! Wake up!” Her little sister Roseanna shouted, bouncing on top of her. “I’m up sis.” Rebecca said getting out of bed. “I need to do something. You go play with Reuben.” Rebecca soon started writing out the story she had previously dreamt.

Two days later, Rebecca was ready to go to school. Then she bumped into Katrina hurrying to school. “Got your story ready?” Katrina asked. “Sure do!” Rebecca said excitedly. They rushed into the hall just in time for their turn to read their story. A few minutes after Mrs Thompson announced the winner. “And the winner is… Rebecca!” She exclaimed as she handed Rebecca the trophy. “Congratulations Rebecca!” Katrina said shaking Rebecca’s hand. “I really liked your story!” “How did you think of such a terrific story?” Katrina asked. “Let’s just say I found the answer in my sister.” Rebecca replied. They both started to fill the empty room with their laughter.

THE END!
